Mosquito Information

Winter season mosquito protection.

After the first frost and temperatures stay below 50°, mosquitoes go on hiatus. The surviving female mosquitoes hibernate. Yes, female mosquitoes and their winter eggs will actually survive the holiday months. As the water temperature drops, it creates a dormant stage called diapause. Activity immediately resumes when the water warms again.

To make sure you help limit mosquito numbers next season, continue to remove all standing water from your yard and empty objects like toys or flower pots that can collect rainwater. Sheds, sewers and piles of leaves are popular areas that eggs are stored for the winter.
